1 Day Trip to Johor Bahru #3

Now I am at the Hindu temple in Johor after visiting Glass Temple. It is located in the center of Johor town also quite near to the City Square Mall. In the late afternoon, the temple is crowded with a lot of prayers.

There are a lot of flower stalls and India good stalls near the temple area.

1 Day Trip to Johor Bahru #2

This is the glass temple in Johor Bahru. I think it is a famous temple because I met a few groups of people from different parts of Malaysia. I have to say that it is a very colorful temple. There is a small fee for camera tax.

Christmas Night at Orchard Road

Today I was at Orchard Road again. I don't want to shoot Christmas Decoration, as everyone will shoot the same thing and get same photos. In order to be unique, I tried to do more street photos because there were so many people from around the world in Orchard road. You can shoot until your memory card full but don't make it too obvious. Your hand have to be very quick. ;)

1 Day Trip to Johor Bahru #1

On 28 of July 2012, I visited one day trip to Johor Bahru. I left Singapore about 7 am as it was Saturdays so the immigration could be busy. Normally, I visited Johor to go to City Square Mall where I enjoyed watching movie, eating and shopping. But this time, it was quite different. I joined a local guy who was kind enough to show us around the town by driving. He is also a photography enthusiastic about photography.

Our first destination of the day was to visit wet market. At first, I dared not take photo of the people in the market. I worried that I made them uncomfortable. However, that local guy knew some of the vendors and kept shooting in front of us. He made me more comfortable to shoot  and I got more photos than as I expected. Unlucky, I brought my compact camera on that days. It was really help because some of them didn't know that I was taking their photos. :)

Portrait Photography #4

I tested off-camera flash for this portrait session. However, I still don't know how to use properly. It is hard to get the right setting between camera and flash. I have to play with exposure from the camera and light power from the flash. I need to take a lot of photos to test. Some worked quite well but some didn't. Please leave a comment and criticize my photos so that I can improve. :)

Orchard Road Christmas Decoration 2012

Every year in November & December, the Orchard road is decorated with beautiful lights and Christmas trees.  It is really beautiful and gives us holiday feeling. The decoration is not the same for each year. This year is more on red and white color. I have been shooting this event for 3 consecutive years. Even thought it means not much for me, I hope people from other countries will like to see how Singapore welcome Christmas and Happy New Year.

Nan Gyi Toke

This Nan Gyi Toke was cooked last week Friday. The actual recipe uses chicken curry, but I used fish ball curry to make this. Mont Ti (rice noodle) is cheap and easy to buy in Singapore. You can buy it at any supermarket in Singapore. Compared to Burmese Mont Ti, Singapore Mont Ti is a bit hard so you need to boil it with hot water for a while.

Portrait Photography #3

These photos were taken 1 year ago. It was also my first attempt to portrait photography. After that photo session, I have been more keen on portrait than other types of photography because it is more challenging and interesting.

In my opinion, even though using the same poses, different models will look differently. You just need to guide the model and find the best angel of her. I usually keep the good photos in my phone and show it to the models. Sometimes the idea come out on the spot.

Mar Lar Hin

I had this home-made Malar Hinn (Spicy vegetables salad) 3 months ago. It is quite troublesome to make at home because it needs to prepare a lot of vegetables and spices. Eating at restaurant is also not worthy in Singapore.

Deepavali in Singapore

I went to Little India last Sunday. It has been a year since my last visit. I was very free on that day so I brought my camera to go there. The decoration might be better at night.

I visited the bazaar before going to the Mustafa shopping center. You can find a lot of clothes, food and carpet stalls there. It is so colorful.

Mahar Kyain Thitsar Shin Pagoda

Burmese fans come to watch the Live show at Thuwana Stadium. I asked my driver to drive me to the North Okkalapa Township which quit far from the place I stay.

Every time I go back to Mandalay, I have to go to North Okkalarpa where the bus terminal is located. On my way to the bus terminal around North Okkalarpa, I always saw the giant Buddha face which I was very curious to know what is this pagoda. So this time, I had decided to visit this pagoda before I went back to Mandalay.

Capital Hypermarket

The supermarket is located opposite to the Shwe Pa Zun Cafeteria. It looks like Giant supermarket from Singapore. It is a 2 storeys building the 1st floor is mainly for food products and the 2nd floor is for clothes and electronic items.

Security guy told me "No photography" so I took all the photos using my phone. :) I was so happy to see a lot of Burmese foods available in one place like this .

Portrait Photography #2

I have been shooting with Canon 550D for more than 2 years. Last time I shot a lot of landscape. In my opinion, It is fairy easy to shoot. You just need to peek from the view finder and press the shutter.

Since early 2012, I have tried a few portrait shoots and realized that it is not an easy thing to get a good portrait. You need to teach models how to pose and guide on their poses. Some people just shoot whatever the model pose for them and it turn out not good in photograph likes model looks sleepy, boring  and not natural. As model cannot see themselves, photographer has the responsibility to guide them along.

Some people look very nice in reality but not good looking in photos. Some look very normal in reality but they know how to pose and their photos look amazing. In my opinion, it is very important for models to know how to express mood with their eyes.

Shwe Pa Zun Cafeteria

I have lived in Mandalay most of the times in Myanmar, I have heard this cafeteria from the advertisements but never been there personally. When I was on my way from Than Lyin to Yangon, we stopped at Shwe Pa Zun for a short break and I had 2 desserts. :)

David Cook at ION Orchard, Singapore

One of my friends told me that David Cook would be performing at ION Orchard 3 Anniversary event so I brought my camera to office on that day. On my way home, I alighted at Orchard to watch the performance. We were there around 5:30pm. There were not many people on that time, perhaps they might not sure who would be performing on that stage. I think they should put David Cook's photo on the stage to attract more people. Anyway, I got a very good place to take photo but I had to wait since 5:30pm to 7:30pm by standing without dinner and water. He only came out to the stage at 7:30pm. There was a fashion show before David Cook's performance.

Portrait Photography #1

Since 2010 March, I have been updating my blog with a lot of landscape, travel and food photos. Actually, I did shoot a lot of portrait sas well. The reason I never post portrait photos is that I am worried the model might shy to publicize their photos on the internet and I am also not sure the portrait will appeal my blog reader or not.

Anyway, as the number of my portrait photos are growing very fast, I have decided to share it on my blog. I also feel that it will refresh my blog which is dominated by travel & food photos.
