Safari World, Bangkok #3

Now I am waiting to watch the Orang Utan show. This show is very funny and Orang Utans are very smart. Some people say it is kind of animal cruelty because they are forced to play boxing and fight each other. According to what I see, they are just playing for fun not very serious.

They are fighting for this sexy girl.

During photo session, they are just like human. They hug you for the photo.

Last show of the day is Spy War show which is similar to Water World show at Universal Studio, Singapore. The show is played by local Thai performers. I will upload all the videos of the shows in next post.

After watching all the shows, we only left a few time to explore the zoo. I skipped 2 shows on that day such as cowboy show and birds show. If I watched all the shows, I wouldn't have enough time to explore the zoo.

This is the last stop before we left Safari World. The feeding place for those Giraffes. They are really huge but friendly. Their tongue is quite long and the saliva is sticky. I have to wash my hands after feeding.

This Giraffe is not happy with this zebra.

I think this look pretty cool, the luxury car and the zebra standing side by side.

That's all for Safari World, I think 900 Baht for this package is really worth it.

Just spent a few minutes inside the zoo, the heavy rain begun and it lasted around 3 to 4 hours. So I thought it was a very unlucky day and supposed to be cancelled all the animal shows due to the bad weather. In Singapore, if rain or lighting comes, they might cancel the show for your safety. :)

But I guessed wrongly, all these shows were performed as schedule while raining. The first show I watched was a Seal Lion show. It was really entertaining. Those Seal Lions are so talented. I will upload the video in next post.

The second show was elephants show. Poor animals have to perform under the rain. Anyway, they can perform perfectly. This show includes playing soccer, shooting arrows, walking on the string and dancing. After the show, there is a photo session with these elephants. They all lied down and you can sit on their legs to take photo. After that you can buy bananas to feed them.

Our guide gave us bananas to feed these Orang Utans. Not sure where he get those bananas from. :)

The brid show and dolphin show were performed at the same time. So I was thinking which one to go. So I let our guide to decide and he recommended dolphin show.

First 2 dolphin, normal dolphins which can find at any aquarium.

Second 2 dolphins. I never seen that kind of dolphins in my life. They look funny and giant. You can see how huge they are in the next photo.

Buffet lunch at safari World. The buffet is better than Dream World buffet.

There are about 10 White Tigers inside. In Singapore Zoo, there are only 2.

Burmese Dinner in Mandalay

This is one of my favorite Burmese restaurants "Aye Myit Tar" in Mandalay. Their side dishes are very delicious.

This is what we had on that day. Mutton, chicken, pork and hilsa (ငါးသေလာက္) curry. Every time I go to Burmese restaurant I'd like to order prawn or hilsa curry. I don't like pork, chicken, mutton or beef curry.

မယ္ဇလီဖူးသုတ္ (Myanmar people like to have this salad during Tasaung Dine Festival's midnight because they believe it can be medicinal on that day.)

After Dream World, my next destination is Safari World (zoo). I bought the Safari World package Tour from the guide who I hired for Dream World tour. He is very friendly and helpful. He gave me 50 baht discount for Safari World Tour and told me not to tell other passengers about this because he charged 950 baht to the rest. There were 10 passengers in our car.

The car left from hotel at 9am and reached there about 9:45am. It is quite far from city. If you are late, you cannot visit Wildlife park because it is open only morning till noon. I think if you are driving, you can drive yourself inside the wildlife park.

It was my first time experience to see different types of Wild animals at one place that really look like Safari. Animals such as giraffe, zebra, deer, Hippo, camel etc are kept together. They are free to go around the park. Some are chasing the car hoping for food. As I saw on that day, the wildlife park is well maintained and animals are well-fed.

They look so cute and lucky compare to animals from other zoo. They have provided very large area to walk around.

The guide asked us to close the window because we were entering to Tiger/Lion area. Fortunately, we manged to catch the feeding time. The staff feeding these Tigers inside the cage is a female.

I really like this photo. One of the best I get from Safari World.

After driving about 30 minutes inside the park, we went back to the Safari World which is a conventional zoo with a lot of shows. I must say that it is better than Singapore Zoo in term of shows, variety and quantity of animals.

Myanmar Kyats from my 2011 Trip

Currency in Myanmar is called Kyats. These notes were printed long long ago and there is no exchanging old to new notes policy in place for so many years, so people are facing with shortages of small changes. Sometime you will get tissue packets, instant coffee mix, candy as a change.

As I heard from people who recently came back from Myanmar, the situation is not that bad right now (2012). This small change shortage is no longer applicable and you will see plenty of new notes in your trip.

Please throw any leftover food to me? I threw one biscuit to him and thought that he won't like to eat. He bite that biscuit, went inside the bush and ate it. If your an animal lover, you can bring pet food to feed these poor stray cats and dogs.

Animal Show Video - You can see the animal show (featured by monkey,goats,dogs), Scary rides, Snow City, Giant house etc.

Hollywood Action Video - You can see the live fighting show which is really impressive. The explosion sound is really loud and everything look so real.

After I explored one round in Dream World, I took this cable care as a last ride. You can see the panoramic view of Dream World and nearby surrounding area from the cable car.

Only I took this cable car, I found some places which I missed out. Dream World is a very big playground and it will take you one whole day to play.

This ride is really scary.

Giant Shoe

On my way back to entrance door, I found out this flower garden with so many beautiful flowers. I think this garden have more kind of flowers than Annual Singapore flower festival.

There is a cactus farm as well. But it was quite late so I didn't spend to explore inside the garden. I didn't want our guide to keep me waiting. However, he is really a patient and helpful guide. After Dream World trip, I decided to hire him for my next destination.

It was around 7:30pm. There were a lot of people waiting for taxi but only few taxi was there. It was a very right choice to buy Tour package to visit Dream World, if not I need to wait for taxi to go back to the city and I am not sure how long it would take.

Since I gave up other scary rides inside the park, I decided to try this roller coaster and joined the queue. Suddenly, it started raining and I thought they were going to shut down until the rain stop. However, they didn't care about the rain and also never care about your safety. You have to put the safety belt by yourself and make sure it is safe. Because the staffs never check all passenger's seat belts properly. They start running the roller coaster, once everyone get seated. How about people who have no idea how to put the seat belt and also don't know how to ask? May be I i think too much.

When it start running, I just closed my eyes. :D It was really a scary ride under the rain and lightening. And I felt like vomiting after riding it.

I drove this bump car as well.

After the bump car, I still tried another roller coaster, inside the dark building. After all these ride, I was feeling so dizzy and unwell. About 12:30 pm, the guide bring me to the buffet eating area for lunch. They served a lot of foods but I didn't have appetite to eat a lot.

After lunch, I went inside to snow city. In Singapore snow city, they don't allow you to bring camera inside. But This snow city allows. :D Notice that I got my camera lens wet after I came out from snow city.

It was very cool inside even though I was wearing jean at that time. I am not sure how those girl with short pant/shirt feel.

This slide is fun.

After snow city, it was time to watch this fighting how. It was quite entertaining. The bomb burst are really loud.

I think she is waiting for the perfect man. :D

This is 4D movie hall. It was not included in the package, so I paid 50 baht to watch it. I have to say, the 4D quality is very good with so many effects.

Dream World, Bangkok #3

This building looks wired, isn't it? Let go and check what is this building.

It was a very hot day. I felt sorry for those wearing very thick dress and walking around the park to entertain the visitors. I cannot remember how many water bottle I drunk inside that park.

Luckily, the building is air conditioned. It is such a relief from outside intense heat. The idea of this building is to make you feel so small, because everything is big in size such as sleeping man, household items, cloths etc.

There is a miniature garden which displays some of the famous places around the world.

This animal show was played by clever dogs, monkeys and goats. First time watched the act of goat in the show, sadly they look so desperate for food. After the show, there is a feeding time when you can buy milk to feed those poor goats. Since there are so many goats, it is impossible for people to feed all. Some poor goats come out with the hope of milk but get nothing.

During my 8 days trip in Bangkok, I added Dream world as one of the destination.
It is quite far from city. There is an tour desk in front of the hotel, so I just enquired the price for the Dream World Tour. It is 950 baht person which include 2 ways transport aircon mini bus, buffet lunch, dream world entrance fees. They never gave me any discount because there were only 5 people for this trip. So I agreed to pay 950 Baht.

The 950 baht include all the rides, entrance fees for snow city and all the shows. But not included 4D movies. I think I paid 50 baht for the 4D movie which is absolutely amazing (5 stars 4D quality and effects)

Compare to Universal Studio in Singapore, Dream World is really big place with a lot of shows to rides and gardens. Some rides are really scary for me.

My photography plan for 2012 is to do more portrait photo than landscape. Portrait photo is more difficult than other types of photography. Only good portrait is produced by model who know to pose and camera man who know how to capture in right way.

The camera man also must tell/advice the model how to pose because sometime the way they pose may look wired when you look from the view finder.

Actually cooking Mee Shay is quite easy. But you need to prepare the following items -

1. Boil Laksa Noodle
2. Boil pork meat and keep the water for soup
3. heat up Sago Powder with water to make 'Gel' (Shortcut, not real recipe)
4. Boil bean sprouts
5. Black bean sauce (Can buy from Supermarket)

MBK Bangkok

In my opinion, MBK is the best place for shopping for all types of people (High, middle or low income). Don't waste your time shopping at other places, just visit MBK is enough. It have a lot of shops and you can shop till you drop.

One thing I like about MBK is, most of the shops put the price tags on the items. So you no need to bargain a lot. I went there twice during my trip and boughta lot lot of things. :)

Every purchase of 200 bahts, you can claim 3 arrows to shoot these balls. If the one balloon burst from every 3 shoots, you will get one "I Love MBK T shirt". I played 3 times (9 arrows) and get 3 T shirts. He He :D

But when I came back to MBK another day, they changed the rule. Each attempt (3 arrows) must burst 2 balloon. That is quite tough. I got no T shirt on that day. :(

The taxi stand at MBK is really good. All are meter taxi and just let the operator know which place you want to go. The operator will guide you which taxi to board.

I asked the taxi driver to drop me in front of the Pantip IT mall. It is similar to Sim Lim square of Singapore. I bought spare canon battery for my camera.

Finally, dinner at night market. :)

After visiting Siam Ocean World at basement, I went up to concourse and saw a big Orchid exhibition area. They made it to look like a garden inside the shopping mall.

Unfortunately, my battery had gone flat after taking a lot of video inside the Aquarium. But I forced my camera to work for a few shoots until it totally dead. Then I captured some of the photos with my backup compact camera (Nikon P80).

Most of shops from Siam Paragon sell high class items. It is not a shopping place for budge traveler like me. So I decided not to waste time looking inside the mall and left to MBK mall.

After shopping in Isetan. I visited the Siam Ocean World which is located inside the Siam Paragon shopping mall. This aquarium is the biggest in South East Asia so far, but Singapore is opening its new aquarium and I guess it will became the biggest in SEA.

Before I went inside the aquarium, I ate lunch at the big food court at Siam Paragon. You have to buy coupon to order food. This food court is really big and variety of choice.

The entrance fees for aquarium is 990 bahts per person. It is quite expensive and it includes
- 1 free bag (cheap quality)
- 1 big coke cup and 1 pop corn
- 1 ticket to watch 3D short movie
- fish massage

Compare to current Singapore underwater world, it is really big and more type fishes.

I really like this fish. As first, I though it is a toy. :)

First time trying this thing. It is really itchy.

While doing fish massage, you can enjoy the fish tank with a lot of shark and stingray.

Inside the aquarium I met one Burmese cleaner who asked me "Are you Burmese?". She is from Yangon and we had a long chat. She explained and guided me around the aquarium. She asked me how much I paid for the entrance fees. I told her 990 Bahts and she said, if I met her before buying ticket, she can ask the ticket counter staff to give me discounted price. She told me there are a lot of Burmese working inside the aquarium and shared her experience that some Burmese tourist don't like while they try to talk like "Are you Burmese?", so they do not anyhow greet people who look like Burmese.

I think I look very kind and friendly. :)

While chatting with her, I just curious and asked her how much you earn and save per month. She told me that she worked as a tailor at Factory in Yangon and the salary was too low. She has a brother already working in Bangkok and asked her to work here. She revealed that the cleaning job earn about 300 bahts per day. So I was thinking the entrance fees 990 bahts is about her 3 days salary.

I took this short boat ride. There are so many salmons, stingrays and sharks inside the tank. The sweet staff explained the history of fish we saw along our way.

This is a real snake not toy. :)

Burmese Ads at Bangkok

This wholesale/retail street market is located just beside the hotel I stayed. Clothes price range from 100 to 200 bahts only. Very Cheap!! I saw guests from Phillipines/Malaysia/Taiwan stays at my hotel, shop at this market and put their clothes at hotel store room.

This market opens from early morning till evening but some shops close after lunch time.

King Power Duty Free Shop, Bangkok

After coming back from Chatuchak weekend market, I decided to visit King Power Duty Free Shop, which located near Victory Monument. You need passport and return air ticket to enter this building. It sells all range of branded items such as watches, clothes, cosmetics, snacks etc. Usually the cosmetic section is the most crowded place and yes, they are quite cheap.

It is not cash and carry shop. After you paid, they seals your purchased items and sends it to the air port. On the day of your departure, collect your things at the King Power shop at the air port.

Inside the King Power building, there is a traditional show (not free) of this ogre in the theater and an international buffet restaurant.

As first, I planned to take taxi or tuk tuk from King Power to the hotel. But I can see the Baiyoke Tower from here, looks quite close. So I just walk to the hotel, save money for dinner. :)

Anyone watched X Factor USA 2011? The finale had boardcasted in Channel 5 at 23-Dec-2011. As I predicted earlier, the top 2 were Melanie & Josh. Both of them are amazing, but Josh is more unique and sing for his life every time he performed. For Melanie, she has a really powerful voice, but she didn't make the song to her own. She just sang like the original singers. Sometime she can sing even better than original singer (eg, Listen by Beyonce).

Anyway, all of them are so talented. How do you think?

Visit to Chatuchak Weekend Market, Bangkok #2

After exploring and having lunch at Chatuchak, I took Taxi to King Power (Duty Free Shop).

Chatuchak Weekend Market is one of the itinerary in my Bangkok trip. One of the world's largest weekend markets covers area of 70 rai (27 Acres) altogether divided into 27 Sections, contains more than 15,000 booths selling goods from every part of Thailand.

I took sky train from Siam Paragon Station to get there. The one way ticket cost 35 Bahts.
I arrived there around 9 am. Some stalls still not yet open.

In my opinion, this market is good for walk around, eating and buy cheap stuffs. Not really good for heavy shopper. Unless you have very good Bargain skill. I bought one wallet which quoted 650 Bahts and I asked for 450 Bahts and the seller agreed. I thought the price is not bad until I saw same kind of wallet in another stall only quoted 350 Bahts. If I asked for discount, I think I can get it with 200 or 250 Bahts. So sad.

I feel sad, when I was in this pet section. Those pets look too exhausted and dehydrated. They are kept in small cages and no contact with sun light. Some type of dogs and cats are really not suitable to live in Bangkok's hot weather. And they are force to wear clothes. Actually no photography is allowed in this section, but I managed to get a few photos to share.

I don't need to mention a lot. This dog's expression say it all.

I read in a few blog that tourists buy these cute pets for their holiday in Thailand and throw them away when they leave Thailand.

As I mentioned above, the market is really big and I used map (available free in market) to get around.

As you can see from my blog, most of my photos are landscape, night, food, flower or macro and I do love taking these types of photo. But these days I am more keen to take portrait or candid photo.

Taking portrait is really challenging because most of the people have no idea how to pose in front of the camera. Thing will get worse if the camera man also no idea with poses. The role of camera man is not just firing the shutter. He need to guide model how to pose and give some advice if the model pose awkwardly.

I think I know how to ask model to pose nicely for good portrait. This is my first portrait series and I hope I can do more portrait photos in the future. C n C are welcome.

These dishes were bought from one of the Burmese food stall from Kyaut Myaung Township, Yangon. I really enjoyed the curry prawn and vegetable soup. I think prawn from Myanmar is more tasty than the one available in Singapore. :)

Khao San Road, Bangkok

Last photos of Wat Arun and Grand place. Since it was still early to go back to hotel, I decided to visit Khao San Road which is famous among tourists. Also known as "paradise for backpackers". Because there are a lot of cheap accommodations, bars and night market.

It was about 20 mins walking distance from Grand palace to Khao San road.

This is the Khao San road. I don't really like this place for my accommodation. It is very crowded and noisy.

I bought this fried noodle from her before leaving. There was nothing interesting to see in this place. I flagged a taxi and experienced the terrible Bangkok traffic jam. I think it took about 30 mins to change the traffic light to turn green and the meter fare rose about 100 baht during the that 30 mins jam.

I had finished exploring Wat Arun temple and and leaving from this place. I need to take the ferry boat to other side of the river.

This place is very good place to relax in the evening. The fresh air will cool you down.

You can buy fish food (bread) 20 Baht each. I fed twice. These cat fish are really big size.

This is the 3 Baht ferry ride which runs for Wat Arun temple. 3 Baht is for two ways.

Christmas Tree at Vivo city, Singapore

All these Buddha statues are from the building beside Wat Arun Temple.

This ceiling light looks gorgeous.

As you can see from these photos, the stair is very steep.

You can rent these Thai traditional dresses to take photo. Does she cute?
Actually "HE". They were a group of 3 and asked me to take group photo as he saw I was taking his photo. :)

I am not sure whether this food is available in other countries or not and no idea how to name it in English. So I simply call it Dried Milk. It is made from milk. You can eat raw or fried.

After you had fried, sprinkle sugar on it.

Beautiful Bangkok skyline can be seen from the temple. Now I knew that this area has a lot of temples and ancient buildings.

The hotel that I stayed is very close to the Baiyoke Tower hotel, the tallest building in Bangkok. It seem like it doesn't look very far from here.

Wat Arun is a very nice place to relax in bustle Bangkok. Feel the evening breeze and enjoy the city landscape from the temple.

This is one of my favorite photo from Bangkok trip.

You can dress up traditional Thai costume and take photo.

It is 40 Baht, if you want to go up to the Temple. I did go up and enjoyed the bird eyes view of the city. The stair is very steep. I don't recommand elderly to go up there.

This is Wat Arun temple also known as 'Temple of Dawn'. It is located opposite to Wat Pho Temple. You need to take ferry boat 3Baht person at Tha Thien pier. When I was on my way to Tha Thien pier, one Tuk Tuk driver approached me and said

Driver - "Wat Arun CLOSED, FOLLOW ME xxxx temple, only xx Baht."
Me - "It's ok, Thank".
Driver - "You know Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Chow Yun-fat? Ahh, Very popular after visit xxx temple."
Me - "I am not interested, sorry". I kept walking to Tha Thien Pier.

He still following me until I talked to other tourist "Are you going to Wat Arun?" She said, "Yes". So that he stopped following me and nagged with bad words "Cazy, stupid etc-". That was a really bad experience.

The temple look really stunning. The ferry will bring you to the other side of river where the temple is located.

Be aware of these standing mannequins, Why? If you put your head and take photo, the lady hiding behind the tree will run to you and ask 40Baht. She will point "40" written on the mannequins and keep saying "40 Baht" until you pay the money. I thought the "40" is just numbering.

It's not about the 40 Baht I paid. She should write "40 Baht" instead of "40" or she should sit near to it and tell the tourists 40 Baht for taking photo and let the tourists decide. There is no need to play hide and seek. After I paid her 40 Baht, she went back to the tree and sat there like she is nothing to do with these mannequins.

I really like this photo. It was taken through the window. I don't think I could go inside this area.

There was free drink inside the Wat Pho at that time. :) I think it is for those chanting with the monks, inside the monastery.

These Stupas look really impressive.

That's it for Wat Pho. My next destination was Wat Arun Temple.

I cooked this dishes a few months ago. Fried chicken, crab meat curry, fried vegetable and fish ball curry.

My meal must has at least one vegetable dish. If not, I don't feel like eating.

A visit to Wat Pho was well worth it because it is free of charge. You can see a lot of Buddhas and Chinese statues.

These stupas look incredible. I really like the artwork decorated on these stupas.

I was leaving from Grand palace and my next destination was Wat Pho Temple. According to Google map, it is just walking distance from the Grand palace. So I ignored all the Tuk Tuk drivers' offers.

Buses from Bangkok are nothing better than Yangon. I never took bus during my trip. I only took Taxi, Tuk Tuk and Sky train.

If you are not sure where Wat Pho is, you have to rely on these Tuk Tuk driver. They will most likely bring you to souvenir shops before sending to the right place.

On the way to Wat Pho, there is a wet market which have a lot of food stalls.

Those cats were not afraid of people and very friendly. Thank to the person who fed those lovely stray cats.

It was a lunch time and I decided to eat a few.

I thought these soups will taste like Burmese Monhingar or Coconut noodle. But It was totally wrong. Really tasteless. It was just hot water with noodle. May be this cook don't know how to cook properly. But they were cheap. If I'm not wrong, it was only 25 baht per plate.

After passing the wet market and flea market, I arrived at Wat Pho temple. There was no entrance fee for Wat Pho. But If you want to go inside and see the Reclining Buddha, you need to pay 50 Baht.

This is the Reclining Buddha. I decided not to go inside because I have seen a few Buddhas like this in Myanmar and some are even bigger than this. They put the Buddha inside the building, so that people have to pay money to see it.

It is still 20 more days to Christmas. It was raining on that time. Actually, I was thinking of taking Singapore Christmas decoration photos on Christmas day itself. But today, It happen to me to go near Orchard area, so I decided to take early Christmas decoration photos.

These photos are not favourite. But I just want to share here for those who are interested in the Orchard road decoration for this year.

In my opinion, the decoration of Orchard road this year is not so beautiful compare to previous years.

I was leaving from the Grand Palace. It was around lunch time.

There is one small garden area inside the palace. It is quite peaceful in the garden, so I sat down for while and took a few photos of these exotic flowers.

You can rent this audio guide at the entrance. My English is not good enough to listen the history, so forget it.
